RTO Scan – Tiruvannamalai Auto Verification App
A QR-Based Vehicle Authentication Platform developed to regulate authorized auto-rickshaws within Tiruvannamalai town limits.
Introduction
RTO Scan is a government vehicle verification application developed to regulate and monitor authorized auto-rickshaws operating within Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu.
Tiruvannamalai experiences a significant influx of visitors during Pournami (Full Moon) occasions, leading to heavy transportation demand.
During these peak periods, the number of auto-rickshaws operating within the town increases drastically, including vehicles arriving from neighboring districts.
To ensure that only locally registered autos operate within town limits, the RTO Office introduced a QR-based verification system integrated into the RTO Scan mobile application.
Problem Statement
During Pournami, Tiruvannamalai witnesses lakhs of devotees visiting the temple town. This results in a sudden surge of auto-rickshaws.
- Unauthorized Entry: Autos from outside regions entering town limits.
- Duplicate Operations: Vehicles falsely claiming local registration.
- Manual Verification Issues: Difficulty in instantly identifying vehicle origin.
- Crowd Management Challenges: Increased congestion during festival periods.
Without a digital authentication system, controlling authorized auto operations was inefficient and time-consuming.
Solution Overview
RTO Scan provides a secure digital mechanism to verify whether an auto-rickshaw is officially registered within Tiruvannamalai jurisdiction.
- QR Code Issuance: Each locally registered auto receives a unique QR code.
- Instant Scan: Officials scan the QR code using the RTO Scan app.
- Full Details Display: Registration and ownership details appear instantly.
- Unauthorized Detection: Vehicles without valid QR codes are immediately flagged.
Administrative Impact
The system significantly improved crowd control, reduced unauthorized auto operations, and enhanced transport governance efficiency during high-traffic festival periods.
